Center Carrier Bearing trouble

Postby XxsturgeonxX [OP] » Jan 17 2012, 12:25am

I just replaced the center bearing and it is doing exactly what the one before it did. The rubber bearing is pulling down and causing the drive shaft to ride metal on metal which causes bad vibrations and grinding. anyone have any tips on what to do?

I assume that you replaced the whole assembly. Is the truck stock height? Did you check all your u-joints while the shaft was out? In case you do not know, you should tighten the bearing bracket to the frame only after the full weight of the truck is on the axle (normal ride height).

No the truck is lifted six in, I replaced it, the only thing I didnt do was tighten it after letting it down. That makes sense. It was all fine for about a month n the other day I checked it and its wore through again.

It sounds like you may have an angle problem as well. I'm not sure if they make them, but you may need a spacer to drop the mounting point of the carrier bearing to help remove some of the angle caused by the lift kit.
