High speed deceleration grinding noise

deceleration growl / grinding

Postby wildmurg [OP] » Nov 14 2010, 6:21pm

I am having a deceleration noise kind of like a metal on metal braking sound at highway speeds, once the drive-line and motor are warmed up!! It is coming from right under the center par of the cab, almost like the torque converter is rubbing on something, but it only happens once everything is warmed up, and the drive-line goes slack. Front and rear diff. have been inspected and fluid changed. Transmission has been drained and flushed with need filter, u-joints inspected and greased, transfer-case has been topped off.
Can anyone help me with this?

Have you lowered the torque convertor cover, or dust shield, and inspected for a cracked or broken flywheel or loose converotr attaching bolt? Flexplate or flywheels have been know to crack towards center hub area and cause "funny or abnormal noises" under specific conditions.

Sounds more like a transfer box issue. Did you try lifting vehicle off the ground and engage power to duplicate.... be safe and not crazy...
