Drive train problem

Postby BILLYBABZ [OP] » May 10 2011, 1:05am

Hello to all,
2004 chev silvarado 5.3l 4x4
Here is my problem, I purchased this truck a few weeks back and was told tranny was NFG as it wouldn't drive. I can put into drive, neutral and reverse, but nothing happens. Also, I can push vehicle back and forth when in "park". I put truck in 4 HI and was able to drive to drive it, so I figured tranny was ok? My next problem (see pic attached) was that somehow when test driving in 4 hi, I managed to screw up rear end? I am also thinking that tranny wasn't NFG in truck, it was something in the rear end ? I drove truck maybe 10/15 km top speed, and just around block? Any suggestions on what happened? TKS.

DRIVE TRAIN PROBLEM

Postby gmctruckguy » May 10 2011, 3:12am

Sounds like transfer case was in neutral, you can't push a truck in park unless the park pawl is broken or the t/case is in neutral. Is it a floor shifter or push button? Linkage may be out of adjustment? Did it drive in all gears in 4wd? Need more info.

TKS 4 the quick reply. It is a floor shifter, and yes tranny works in all gears including reverse. According 2 the trail of fluid, I went about 200 ft b4 I put a hole in rear diff cover. Also, when NOT in 4wd i can move (push) truck 4ward or backwards. TKS again 4 the prompt reply.
