External trans cooler recommendations

Postby thirdgen [OP] » Jul 20 2010, 11:52pm

I want to put a trans cooler on my truck that eliminates the trans lines to the radiator. I want one that is plug and play with no cutting of lines or anything involved. Any suggestions?

Why not go to the radiator and add large cooler? Ive been rebuilding transmissions for 15 years I WOULD NOT bypass the radiator. I don't know of plug and play cooler but the best is True cool stacked fin style. Don'T get one that has a round tube running in a S pattern they are scrap metal. I have the right tools to test the cooler flow and the heat changes made from installing coolers and upgrades inside trans like line to lube . Any more question feel free to ask

So I went to this website:
http://www.transmissioncoolers.us/Merch ... -cool-thin
and I found a pile of True Cool Coolers. There are a bunch of stacked fin styles, but it had a listing for a fin and plate design that said "This plate & fin design allows more air to pass through the cooler than the stacked plate type cooler". So what size cooler and what style should I get? I would like to be able to do a lot of towing with my truck. Once I remove my trans pan I am going to weld a bung to it for a trans temp sending unit.

Ive installed more Truecool # 4590coolers in my life than any other. If it will fit, thats what i would do. If it will not the #4490 is the next best.

To thirdgen:

You can swap out your gauge cluster for a 1500HD or 2500HD gauge cluster with trans temp gauge. Instead of installing a temp sending unit. It is a plug and play swap. I did 1 one my 02 and it works great.
