four wheel drive actuator

four wheel drive actuator

Postby mx249 [OP] » Dec 07 2012, 1:42am

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Half-ton single cab short bed. I just replaced the in dash 4x4 switch and actuator. The in-dash switch doesn't light up yellow to show me i'm in 2wd, same for 4hi and 4lo. The numbers still light up, just the yellow indicators do not. Also nothing happens when I press the buttons. The drive shaft doesn't spin either, Before I changed the actuator the front drive shaft did spin. I was wondering if there's a special adjustment needed to be made on the actuator before installing because I did notice that you could thread a piece in or out, and it would compress or decompress the spring inside the actuator depending on which way you turned it. IF you need more information let me know! I just want to know if this should be something simple as the actuator not being adjusted properly or if my transfer case/ differential is junk. I also tried resetting the truck but flicking the key off/on three times quickly. Nothing happened. I also used a DMM to test all the connections, and the actuator as well as switch is getting power.

check your transfer case motor wire harness sounds like its not engaging on that end, and yes there actually is a motor attached to the t/c, the front actuator locks in your front diff electronicaly the t/c motor engages the t/c and gets the front driveshaft spinning

Would I have to get my transmission reprogrammed? Napa guy says that may be an issue, but I don't know.

just replaced the TCM, Actuator, and In-Dash switch. The service 4x4 light went away on the dash, but 4x4 still doesn't work. Nor does 2HI, 4HI, or 4LO indicators come on. They don't blink or anything. The only part of the switch that illuminates is Auto 4WD, 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO.
