Front Differential or Oil cooler Leak? see pic

Postby jammer8962 [OP] » Feb 17 2017, 4:39pm

New to the site here, have an '01 sierra 4wd, love it. Looking at buying this 2009 sierra (4wd), got a pic of a leak here, can't really tell where it may be coming from or what I'm in for. Take a look and let me know what you think the case is. It is a minor leak, but leaking nonetheless. Is this common? easily fixable? I usually do my own work, but not sure here... FYI - that is the stabilizer bar where the fluid is that I'm referencing. Any insights/help is very much appreciated before I buy this thing. Also, everything else on this truck is immaculate, guy wants 21k...

So that's the driver's side of the engine. I couldn't think of something that would be on that side unless I get under mine. I think the power steering fluid reservoir is the only thing in front of it. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

EDIT: I went out and looked at that point on my 09. The only things I see that would cause an oil-ish moisture there are the reservoir as mentioned or the output shaft. I had to replace mine at about 120k.

Could be your front differential input shaft seal. cant really tell anything from that vague picture. A picture upwards would provide better results.

+1^ Yes. just seeing that point makes it a bit tough to figure, however the liquid there seems more from blowback; you know, the force of air blowing back from forward motion. I made up a new word....look for it in years to come.

blowback

To hold a marijuana joint in ones mouth between the lips with the hot end in the mouth while blowing smoke out of the hole at the other end into someone else's mouth, so as to get a big 'hit'

Heard Mikes Hippy maneuver be called a Shotgun. Blowback sounds like something that happens after eating the Bean dip.

hahah, thanks for the replies guys. I'm in agreement, we always called it a shotgun too, but blowback does make sense. Sorry ab the pic angle, but appreciate the input. Take care and I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on it, figuring it's not too big a deal that I couldn't fix over a weekend. I'll try to come back and post what it ended up being.

I always called when you blow backwards on the bowl of a pipe out the stem as a shotgun hit. I think after eating bean dip it's called bottom blow.
