OK, new to the forum but not new to GM trucks. Looks like an active forum, glad to be here.
Anyway, wondering if anyone can help. I have an 05 Silverado Z71 with 230K miles. I have owned the truck since new. At last oil change I noticed the transfer case was leaking. Took to dealer right away. They told me the case was leaking where it bolts together. Charged me $500 to remove inspect and reseal. Thought I was good to go but still getting some leaking. Then, about 1200 miles after this was done, I started getting a strange noise when running the truck over 50mph. Unfortunately it seems to be coming form the transfer case. The noise I get while driving in 2H over 50mph sounds just like what is shown at 1m:35s in this you tube video .
When I engage 4WD, the noise goes away then I get a roaring noise once 4D actually engages.
So.... now it appears I have a bad transfer case? Maybe? I specifically asked them to look for pump rub and they said it was fine. Now there are obviously more problems. Any opinion on this issue? Is there any hope left for this TC or is it shot?
Looks I can get a GM 246 Reman TC for about $900 from http://www.transfercasewarehouse.com. Anyone have any experience with these guys or another suggestion?
Thanks!!
