In-Line Trans Fluid Filter

Postby Jim [OP] » Oct 18 2011, 7:43pm

Has anyone ever installed a in-line Trans Fluid Filter, my concern is fluid lines, are they under high pressure at all? The Fluid Filter is held in the fluid return lines held in place by band clamps. 2002 Silverado 1500 Z-71 5.3 Ltr.

why are you thinking about adding another filter? personally i have 205,000 miles on my original transmission and she still smells like new trany fluid. change the stock one every 40k-60k and you'll never have to worry... an extra fuel filter on the other hand i think would be a great idea.

well I dropped the ball an it is my bad, I am a finatic about keeping up with maint and the tranny slipped my mind, truck has 107K and I just looked at the fluid it is discolred but not really burt smelling bad, so I rotated a bunch of fluid in and out thru dipstick, now the color is good but still has the oem filter. I have read it is a bad idea to have the power flush done if it has not been doner all along. I have read some forums that the pan drop is a PIA on this truck, I crawled under today to just peak and it looks like a pain with the deep pan and exhaust and shift linkage etc. I am thinking of having a shop do a pan/filter deal and periodic keep rotating a gal of fluid at a time. I was thinking of the in-line filter as a measure to help the pan filter for any trash still in there due to not doing the power flush. I want to make up for lost maint if I can,
