Launch Shudder

Postby warrior73 [OP] » Aug 03 2010, 10:08pm

Hey everyone, I have an 02 silverado extended cab z71 with the 5.3, and 147000 miles. I just started to get a pretty bad launch shudder then when I hit 20mph it's gone. I did a search and found a bulletin Chevy put out about a lunch shudder for the trucks with a 2 piece drive shaft, but mine is a one piece. I have replaced U joints only have like 10k on them and I greased them up when I started to get the shudder but it didn't do anything. The truck is a one owner and the rear diff fluid has been changed several times. Any one have any ideas?

I also am getting what sounds to be a creaking or grinding noise when I go a dip at normal driving speeds, or a speed bump at parking lot speeds. This sometimes gets worse and I will notice it just when driving on flat smooth roads after I hit a dip or hump. Could this be related to the above? I'm baffled on both and that doesn't happen to often for me.

Thanks for everyones help!

Sounds like you STILL have a bad u joint. Have you loosened the driveshaft at the rear and "worked" both joints to check for stifness or noise?

Pull the drive line check joints and put Molly grease on the slip yoke splines.
