I do not think it is going to seal itself. Get a good gasket and replace it. Do not overtighten the pan either.

well trans still leaks minimally at the pan and at the transfer case to transmission gasket wtf. for the pan if i take the bolts out and put a new gasket in some of the bolts i can gaurntee will just strip out. when i put them in more than a few of them were really cross threaded whoever dropped the pan last must have been retarted or used an impact so if i try to reinstall the bolts they will strip and it'll be a whole big job again i gues ill just have to top the tans off once in a while no big deal

IMO no new brand new gasket should leak unless there is a widespread defect. That being said when I changed my filter (every time I change it) I do it in the same steps every time.
1. Drain (if there is a plug)
2. Unbolt All but two pan bolts (opposite of each other) with in impact gun (so it can be done quickly w/o making a mess)
3. Drain if no plug provided
4. Remove filter making sure O ring comes with it (similar to a engine oil filter)
5. Wipe all surfaces, touch internals by hand making sure nothing is loose that shouldn't be.
6. Spray surfaces with light duty cab+choke cleaner.
7. Use a pneumatic powered abrasive to clean the gasket surface. DO NOT OVERDUE IT. (plastic, not sandpaper)
8. Wipe gasket surface with lacquer thinner.
9. Repeat cleaning process on pan
10. Using two bolts (to hold it in place) put the gasket on the pan and hand tighten
11. Use clutched drill or air ratchet to fasten all bolts. (All bolts should be hand tightened first to ensure that the gasket is not being destroyed by a crooked or cross threading bolt.)

Sealant should not be necessary if you change your filter at regular intervals and don't let it go 10 years without being changed. If your gasket material is a paste, be sure to run a light, continuous bead across the whole surface, then smooth with finger, being sure not to lift your finger until you are done as this may cause bubbles and bubbles = leaks.

EDIT For stripped bolts, I recommend educating yourself in the helicoil process. Also if you think you did a perfect job the last time, there is 1 major thing to check. Use a flat piece of steel (carpenters square, ruler with metal edge, etc.) and press it longways against where the gasket would to on the trans. Use a flashlight to cast light behind the object you are using and see if you can a significant amount of light coming through the flat edge. If you have an even amount of light coming through the whole surface, then at least you know its flat. Repeat this process on the pan itself. It is possible it cooled too rapidly (example - parking in a deep puddle) at some point and warped. Collision can obviously cause this too. (example - rock, animal, curb)

Definatly invest in a Helicoil kit. As far as it leaking at the gasket between the transmission and the transfer case, you are going to have to remove the transfer case to get that leak fixed by installing a new gasket.
