dont think it can hurt having it off. May use more fuel though

with over drive off your rpms will be higher. wastes more gas, but like you said you'll have more power cuz your rpms are higher

Ditto these guys^^ The only time I ever turn off overdrive is if I'm towing. If you're fortunate enough to have tow mode, that will turn it off automatically, as well as change shift points (which is really handy if you happen to be drag racing...)
