popping noise from transfer case

I have a 2004 chevy 2500 hd and when I engage 4x4 theres a popping noise coming from transfer case area. I put it up on a rack and engaged 4x4 and makes no noise but when on ground it pops bad and sounds horrible. I was thinking probably jumping in and out of 4x4. I checked all u-joints, cv axles etc. And no leaks anywhere. Oil level is also good in t-case. Any suggestions?

there could be a few things going on.

could be the chain jumping under load,

could be the pump / chain rubbing through the case

could be the motor trying to put in 4wd and binding or getting stuck

or the little pin inside is broken or misaligned.

Sunds like it is only under a load situation

maybe its your driveshaft bottoming out or similar issue
