Hi I'm replacing a transmission on a 97 k1500 truck and broke the tabs off the range selector cable when I was removing it. The plastic flanges that fit against the bracket with the hole in it broke because I forgot to disconnect them before lowering the trans. Now I've got the new one in position but broke another flange on the new one trying to install it ... its a tight fit. How are these plastic tabs supposed to be installed? Do they need to be pulled outward with a 90 degree pick or what? They're really brittle (even on the new ones) and I don't want to break this new cable.
Never mind, the similar topics feature at the bottom of the screen pointed me in the right direction: Transmission shift cable.
Anyway here are the tools you will need: 8 mm socket, 13 mm wrench, 15 mm socket, and phillips head screw driver. The trim panel below the steering wheel will need to be removed to remove the column side of the cable. The bench will need to be unbolted on both sides (two 15 mm bolts near driver side and a single 13 mm bolt along the front track for the driver seat.
