Return of Quadrasteer?

Return of Quadrasteer?

Postby 2003Z71 [OP] » Mar 14 2011, 4:00am

My brother heard from a few different guys that GM is going to bring back the Quadrasteer option as soon as they can figure out how to lower the price of the system. Anyone know for sure??? :?

I read an article not long ago about the fall of Quadrasteer and IIRC it was saying that they had lowered the price down to around 2K before they dropped it all together. If would surprise me to see them bring it back.

If they bring it back with more cheap forign parts , forget it! They have enough problem parts as it is today. They aren't worth half of what they're asking for them today if you ask me! My older trucks gave me alot less trouble then this newer juck.

Quadrasteer always intrigued me. I agree that the additional moving parts may be a cause for issues, but I sure would like an opportunity to be able to park the truck in a parking lot without having to back up once or twice to get in there!

Yup, too many issues, too costly, leave well enough alone.

I happen to have a 2500 crew cab quadrasteer. I have 90k miles on the truck and never had a single problem with the system. It is actually pretty impressive how much difference it makes when you try parking with the system in 2 wheel steer then try it again in 4 wheel steer. The rear tires only turn up to 12 degrees but that little bit makes a huge difference. Going around big half-cirlce type roads at like 30 mph is kinda wierd though because it feels like the rear end is gonna break loose and spin out but other than that its an all around cool feature. I do get questioned on it when people see me parking in tight spaces or when they are watching my truck in parking lots. Pretty cool stuff though.

Hello,
Just to let everyone know, Quadrasteer is so fantastic. It sold me on My 2005 Yukon. And yes it's working great at 60+ miles, Quad no issues there. Other things have broken.
And yes I know you all love to back up and park those big trucks with out... fine that's ok. Some people don't like power steering either. I do. I like to do U turns in three lanes.
Backing up and turning with quad Easy. Parking a 28 ft airstream and parking it in a suburban slot next to a house... is easy, with Quad.
Turning a horse trailer in a small space instead of hunting for a spot to park that trailer, still easy with Quad.
If you are towing some trailer... or parking in the city.... or just like easy rather than hard, Quadrasteer should come back every ten years for those of us who love it so much we would buy it again, and again and again..... :D

The last two years (2004-2005) of Delphi Quadrasteer, the option had been lowered in price to $1,200 total. When it first came out in 2002, they wanted $3,800 or so. It's amazing how the public just won't pay for the advantages however, most of them and the car salesman alike, probably didn't even bother to read up or ask how it works and what the benefits are.

Now that I have used it, I'd pay for it. It's not that much more on a $35,000 to $40,000 purchase anyway and they have very little trouble with it after all these years.

Old thread resurrection, sorry, but I have to agree with others on the Qsteer. I have been a F**d owner for a very long time, had an F350 Dually Diesel for 10 years, and that truck was HUGE. Parking it was a pain in most lots due to its length and width. I also had a 2012 F150 Screw and it was also a pain to park in some lots. I just picked up a Chevy Silverado 1500 with Qsteer last week and am extremely impressed with how it turns. It drives no different than a car. I pulled into a parking spot between two cars as if I were driving a Civic. It works flawlessly with 125K miles in it. The key to any of these is to keep it clean to prevent corrosion, and it will last a very long time. I made that mistake with my Dually. I let it sit too long in the garage without washing the salt off it, and the spring thaw caused it to sweat and rust like crazy, so a few months later when I needed to use the truck, it had no brakes, the entire system seized up from rust. The oil pan was so rusted I was afraid it would hole. Thats what I get for parking it and not driving it at least once a week, but diesel was so damned expensive that I only drove it when I absolutely needed it, which was a shame, it was a nice truck.

So, dont let these sit with salt on them, or yes the Qsteer will fail, and getting replacement parts will be difficult if not impossible. For those nay sayers though, until you drive one, you just dont get it! LOL I would really consider a new one down the line if they brought back Qsteer, going to make trailer towing so much more enjoyable too.
