Tow/haul button not working.

Tow/haul button not working.

Postby dirtybird819 [OP] » Jul 03 2012, 4:30am

Tow/haul button not working. I use it quite frequently with bobcat or fully loaded landscape/lawncare trailer, but I noticed over the weekend its no longer working. where would it commonly be to check for this problem? I assume a wire harness somewhere? On transmission?

Common problem with that model. I believe there is a wire in the steering column that comes loose and caused the tow/haul button to fail. I had to fix it when i had a 2004 but i can't remember the exact procedure. Someone will be along shortly to help you!

It's been storming here pretty bad lately not to mention 90% of Ohio was with out power for 4 days and some still are.
When I get the chance ill look into it. Hopefully someone else will chime in and let us all know.

As stated above, it is the wire from the switch in the steering column that has developed an open in it. I believe there is a thread on this site that explains how to replace the switch. If not I'm sure you can google it and someone has posted a video on line of how to do it.

I just had the same problem on my 04. Pull the plastic covers off the colomn and you will see a red or orange wire coming out of the shift lever. about 3-4 inches into the colomn the wire fatigues and breaks. I tried to fix the wire but in the end it was easier to just order a new shift lever as the wire is very fine and hard to repair. the new lever was about 60 bucks and i just plugged the wire into the connector already there.

Can I bypass the original switch with a toggle and just run it from the wiring harness?
