Push the traction control button once and the traction control warning light should come on in the dash. Push the button again and hold for 5 seconds, and the stabilitrack should be off. This video may help:

It would appear from the video that it's fully defeatable, but I have heard others experiencing what you are as well, and say they cannot fully turn it off. Not sure what to tell ya.

Thanks for the reply. Its weird that it wont turn off all the way, and to be honest not probably shouldn't unless off roading but its one of those things that just bothers me! Lol

I am sure it's a liability thing for GM. On the other hand, I don't like having someone tell me what I can and cannot do with my truck.

Honestly, there are times like in really deep snow, that it's better to have it turned off. If the wheels cannot slip a little, you'd never be able to move. The engine powers down and the brakes start to come on, and the truck just sits there.

Same boat, went out to play in the snow/mudd the other day and it would still flash even with it "off", granted I did'nt hold it for 5 seconds like the book said, I just pushed the button and the stabilitrac turned off, but I guess traction control is still on? How can you go out and do doughnuts and have fun with reduced engine power and braking? My mothers drive is over 200 feet long and I want to able to move through the snow with NO issue and most of the time I'll need the tires to spin to keep moving, there has been times where the drifts are over the bumper, I've even got our JD 4710 stuck before in that drive. My 1997 Balzer just went through the snow with no issue at all, then I got my 2005 VUE which would get stuck at the beginning of the drive, the stupid stabilitrac on that car makes it so there is 0 tire spin.

What I've noticed with mine while playing, when you push the button it turns off. When you loose traction with it off it will flash to indicate you are experienceing traction loss. Not sure if that's your problem but hope this helps

I double checked my manual, and saw this:
StabiliTrak®
The vehicle may have a traction control system that
limits wheel spin and the StabiliTrak system that assists
with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving
conditions. Both systems turn on automatically every
time the vehicle is started.
. To turn off traction control, press and release button on
the instrument panel. Dash light (that looks like a car swearving with a triangle around it) illuminates and the
appropriate DIC message displays. See DIC
Warnings and Messages on page 4‑65.
. To turn off both traction control and Electronic
Stability Control, press and hold buttone until
dash light illuminates and the appropriate DIC message
displays. See DIC Warnings and Messages on
page 4‑65.
. Press and release the button again to turn on
both systems.
For more information, see StabiliTrak® System on
page 5‑6.

Not sure waht else to say...
