Transfer case leak...

Transfer case leak...

Postby fiendcbr [OP] » Apr 05 2011, 6:15am

I noticed the other day that my transfer case was leaking, from one of the bolts that goes around the case. I was wondering if any one knows the torque specs on those bolts? It looks like the previous owner had the transfer case rebuilt since I see some grey RTV gasket along the edge, or does it come from the factory this way? Also can this case be re-sealed, if so how difficult would it be? I will check the drain plug is also to spec. I read some that it should be 15 ft-lbs. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry about that, I have an automatic trans. Would the case bolts be the Transfer Case to Transmission bolts?

I had a similar problem what seemed to be ATF leaking from tail section t case bolts turned out to be a pinhole in the rear half of tcase very slow leak but I would check it out tcases aren't cheap to replace and you don't want to run it dry or that's exactly what you'll be in for

Ya 37 ft/lbs is correct. Normally they were sealed with a red sealant called gasket maker.

The factory used a black silicone to seal the bolts on my case. It's a 999 Z71
