Transfer case noise?

Transfer case noise?

Postby Mikez94 [OP] » May 09 2012, 11:47pm

I have a 2000 silverado 1500 4x4. Whenever i turn it makes a rubbing noise. The 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive works perfectly fine. Is this something to be worried about? If so I am just wondering if there is any way to fix it besides replacing the entire thing because it is expensive

If the noise is clear back by the rear axle, I doubt it is a transfer case problem.

Ok. Thats a relief then. If its a wheel bearing though why would it only make the sound when i turn?

Transfer case noise?

Changed wheel bearing yesterday on a friends silverado. His complaint was "it only makes noise when i turn"... Lol he left happy! Doesnt mean urs is a bearing but possible. U said transfer case, but the noise is in the rear? Do u know how to test the bearings?

The short answer as to why it only makes noise while turning is that the weight and force exerted on the bearing is increased while turning.
