Transmission identification in 01 Silverado

Postby starterz [OP] » Dec 01 2010, 7:36pm

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 5.3L. I was wondering what kind of Transmission do I have. Right now im to damn lazy to look underneath the truck. Reason being is that I believe that my transmission is going to be going out soon. Right now it is shifting O.K. during normal operations. But Down shifting is the problem. A lot of slippage going on. Rev's high and locks into 2nd and sometimes 3rd.

There are about 400 transmission codes in the GM build codes. They start with the letter M. Look in your glovebox for the Service Parts ID tag. It should look something like the item below, where I have circled M30 - which is the trans I have. Provide the code and we can look it up. I don't want to put all 400 in a post!

Only 2 trans for 01 models, you likely have the Automatic Transmission,4L60-E, the other 4L80E is HD

M30 : TRANSMISSION, AUTO 4 SPD, HMD, 4L60E, ELECTRONIC

So your code would be one of these two:
M30 = TRANSMISSION,AUTOMATIC 4 SPEED,4L60E,ELECTRONIC,4-SPD A/TRANS
M33 = TRANSMISSION,AUTO 4-SPD,4L60-E,ELECTRONIC,HYBRID,A/TRANS

Good luck - hope that helps!
