Im not a transmission expert but the first thing that comes to my mind would be a torque converter problem. What engine and transmission do you have?

i have the 5.3L with the 4L60E transmission. i was slipping a bit before i changed the fluid but after i changed the fluid and filter it hardly shifts at all now. it will not change gears very easily and the motor revs up and down.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but.... I think it's time for a rebuild. A lot of times the worst thing you can do for a transmission that is slipping is to replace the fluid and filter. The reason is, when you do that it raises the line pressure and sometimes will blow out the old seals, so it starts to slip even more.

I would have to agree with ASTE. A transmission shop could look at it and double check, but if it's slipping that bad I'd say it's on it's way out..
