Transmission Whine

Postby jpc2010 [OP] » Nov 01 2011, 1:36pm

I have a 2010 Silverado 4x4 4.8l. 33,000mi on it. I just got it a month ago. It has a transmission whine when accelerating. Does not happen in park or neutral. Before i bring it in just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. I am a mechanic by trade and hate bringing my vehicles to the dealer since i have worked at dealers before, but this is the only vehicle that i have had in a while that actually has some warranty left. thanks for the help

Does it have any slipage? I'm thinking cavitation, possibly the filer is not sealing into the pump good and it is getting air in the pump inlet. Did you just have the filter and fluid changed? Just a guess. If it's not that, then who knows.

No nothing has been done. Sounds like a pump whine or a bearing. I've seen Toyota trucks with a similar noise ant it was the pump. Thanks for the input

Can you run through Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive and back while stepping on the brake and hear the whine come, go and come back?

Does not ever happen in park or neutral. When it is in any gear if I push the accelerator it gets louder with higher rpm's weather sitting still with my foot on the brake or while driving.

Not what I was thinking then. Torque converter comes to mind but I honestly can't be sure.

It's kinda hard to diagnose it over the internet. Let us know what it is when you find out.
