What gear ratio do I have?

Postby chris00521 [OP] » May 06 2012, 12:37am

Just curious to tell what gear ratio I have. Would it be listed in the accesories list in the glove box?

Here is a picture of my sticker. My code is GU6 (3.42).

Do a google search for you code and the words "Gear Ratio." You'll find your gear ratio within the first couple links.

I have a gt4 ratio which i believe is 3:73...i dont know much about this at all. Is that considered a higher/better ratio..my window sticker says i have a max trailering package..but its not a HD truck..this seems confusing..it does take off like a rocket though :)

3.73 is the only ratio you can have with the Max trailering pkg. Also, its not available on any CC or EC without the Max trailering. They are limiting its use to meet CAFE standards.

With gear ratios, the higher the number the lower the ratio. Lower ratios are good for towing and performance but will be less fuel efficient. Thats why the default ratio for the e cabs is 3.08; to get the epa highway fuel mileage numbers up to be competitive with the other brands. Btw - - Its not the CAFE numbers just for trucks but the entire GM line that has to meet CAFE or face heavy fines.

Thanks alot for clearing that up!!! It basically sounds llike the 3.73 is more of a rare ratio now on the newer trucks. Thanks again
