I WISH this was my truck. It's running a LS-1 with a 4L60E overdrive out of a '98 corvette.
I just love the lines. Clean.

Is that Jed Clampett?

Depends on where you're racing. I understand a lot of the baja pre-runners are 2wd.

Im in South Alabama and the only reason for a 4WD is either to look good or go mud riding after a tropical storm or big rain. I would love to have a 4wd and was going to get one until I bought a new truck. I figured since im paying so much for a brand new truck there is no way in this world it is going to see anything other than pavement. But if I did buy 4wd it would be used. I guess it all depends on who you are and where you live.

I have had 4x4s off and on forever. While a 2wd is good for 95% of my purposes, I have been stuck in a Christmas day Texas ice storm because my 2wd Tahoe could not get up an ice-covered hill. I can drive in ice, but cannot defy the laws of physics. Now I have a 4wd that will guarantee that I can get places in any weather.

Also, my 4wd truck completely lost traction in 2wd pulling my jeep/trailer across a low water sunken bridge in a camp site. Once I engaged 4wd, I was able to make the climb up the hill. This was on asphalt. Backing the trailer across the narrow bridge was not something I was willing to try.

I have no need for 4x4, I don't take my truck mud ridding. That's what atv's are for.

dang, yall still arguing about this? I got a 2wd. why? it was what they had. will I ever need 4x4 idk. in 11 years of driving I never had the need for 4x4. I driven in about 10 in. of snow in my truck and no problems. im gonna drop it with airbags. I think the original poster wanted to know why lift a 2wd, I would never do that maybe level it but not lift it. and I would never drop a 4x4, so thats my opinion.

I suppose a 2wd truck would work in areas where there is no snow, or any need to go off road.

I had a 2wd SUV and it was the worst purchase of my life. I live in Pennsylvania, and we get decent amounts of snow in the winter, and I had the worst time getting through the snow. I bought the best all winter tires I could find, got safety chains, etc and still continued to spin and get stuck on hills with a DUSTING of snow with my 2wd SUV. Won't ever do that again. One of the reasons I made sure I bought a 4wd when I bought my new Silverado!

here in indiana its hit or miss with the snow. one winter may be horrible and dump snow left and right while the next year may be nothing at all. my first truck was a '97 dakota 2WD with the 5.2 V8. not having a locker and that much power for the truck size saw me breaking the back end loose from a stop even if i touched the pedal like a feather. i swore then that i would never get a 2WD truck again. after that getting totaled by a cadillac who lost control on the snow i bought a 4WD exploder as a quick replacement. driving on snow was like night and day. the better traction through equal displacement of power to all 4 wheels really does help make a difference. when i finally got the money to get back into a truck i knew the only option for me was 4wd. granted i drive mainly in 2WD mode, at least i know i have 4WD if i ever need it.

history on my vehicles 1st was a 83 honda accord, 86 cav, 91 s10 2wd, 98 s10, 01 s10 4.3, 02 trialblazer 4wd, 03 sil z71, 05 cav, 06 gmc crew 4x4, and now 08 sil ext z71. i live in ohio and winter weather is hit and miss. i live where roads dont get plowed much. i use my cav for normal easy driving. when weather is hard to drive in i use my truck. i travel 90 mile round trip to work. i was a mech for the us army and worked on m998s humvees parts dont break unless you try to break them. never had to replace a half shaft yet. but MPs can break anything if you let them.. and finally i live to get stuck.. its the challenge that make off roading fun...
