I don't know either... thanks for the help though! :)

Here is the error that I get:

Nothing found for VIN Number *INSERT VIN HERE* (that's where my VIN would be)

It may be that we don't have it in the database yet, but be sure to check that you

have typed it correctly. Be sure to try back often, we're constantly updating the database.

From the first page...

"The CompNine Total VIN Decoder includes Chevrolet, Saturn, GMC, Hummer, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Geo, D***e, Plymouth, Jeep, Chrysler, F**d, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda Trucks, and Mercedes. We have over 240 Million VINs in our database, going back to 1980 and up to early 2010. F**d, Lincoln, Mercury, and Mazda Truck matches are from 1992 to early 2009."

This is why you may not get anything as they advertise up to early 2010 only.

http://www.decodethis.com - Another VIN utility site, showing lots of options and other info.

Just an FYI I used this site and then called the local chevy dealership using my account for the collision center I'm employed at. The website said the VIN I had was a 4-speed tranny. Chevy dealer parts department said it was a 6-speed. Just my experience

Hmmm, kind of an old thread but yah, that has typically been the most useful free vin decoder that I have found.

Been using compnine with good results but newer vehicles (2013-2015) don't show up. Other than that it's a very good site but you'll have to pay.
