2014 Silverado 2500HD vs. 2014 same

Postby jsummers72 [OP] » Oct 08 2013, 4:08am

I just received an email promo of the 2015 Silverdao 2500HD. It came from Chevrolet. The point of the ad was to say that "first came the all newly designed 2014 Silverado 1500; next comes the 2015 Silverado 2500HD". The stuff this promo highlighted in the 2015 2500HD were all things I thought were in the 2014 2500. I'm buying a new 2500 in Dec 2014. Coming down from AK to the big markets in Texas to look for a 5.3 gas'er LTZ w/ the max towing pkg. I thought the ads for the 2014 2500 showed the "new re-designed Silverado". Now these 2015 ads make me wonder. The 2015 advertisement even mentions the new redesigned doors that mold into the side of the cab, reducing noise and airflow". Sound familiar ? It's the same verbiage, right out of the 2014 2500 ads. Or am I really missing something ? Is the 2014 2500 a totally different animal than the 2015 2500HD? Maybe its the "HD" that makes these so different. maybe a GM Customer Svc guy can comment. Thnx in advance.

2014 1500 is redesigned. Actually almost all new. Engines and everything. 2014 2500 is a carryover from 2012,2013 etc. Still a great truck with a proven chassis and power plant. 2015 2500 is redesigned exterior and interior to look like the 2014 1500. Same engine a chassis. So you can prob get better deals on the 2013 or 2014 2500 if u don't mind the interior looks and get the same engine and chassis they are boasting about in the 2015 2500s. Or think about 6.2l max tow 2014 1500. Can tow 12,000 lbs and has tons of power and good mpg for a large V8.

Scott is right on the money
Though about the 6.2 1500 myself, the 2500 won over in payload

Shucks, I was all set to purchase a new 2500 this Dec in Texas. I'm sure glad I saw the 2015 ad, because I wouldn't have suspected the 1500 chg's & improvements for 2014, were NOT also made in the 2500. Chevy sure does NOT make that clear & upfront. I think a 2500 HD w/ the 3.73, 5.5l gas eng is what I want. Rather than the max towing pkg in a 1500. I didn't really want the largest gas eng anyway. Accord to the Chevy website the 5.3 & 3.73 combo is avail in the 2500. At least in the 2014 one. Thnx again for the good info.

I was told last night at the Chevy dealer that the "New" 2014 2500 will be in their lot in March 2104. These will have the design chg's that the 2014 1500 have. he was not certain whether they will be marketed as 2015 or not. he told me that I was 1 of a dozen who asked him why anyone would buy a 2014 2500 now, rather than wait for the "new" new ones in MArch. I asked him if there would be a price discount on the 2500 after he has 2 models of he same truck on the lot. He thought not. Any "official" Chevy person out there know if this will be the 2015 2500's that I've read about ? The only change I could see missing was the new corner step bumper and easy lift tailgate were not on his 2014 2500's.

I'm not an official Chevy/gm person, but I do know that the 2015 hd line of GM trucks will be available early 2014, it has already been announced to the world. Like was mentioned above the redesigned 2500/3500 line up is a simple cosmetic thing, not very many power train changes, if there's any at all.

I read somewhere the only engine choices for the 2015 2500HD will be either the 6.0L or the DMax.
I'm not a member of the "good old boy" clan and I don't drink the kool aid.

My brother has been waiting for the new 2500 HD's and talking to the dealers they said the 2014 HD will continue to look like the 2012 and 2013. As stated above the newer body style 2500 HD will be a 2015 released in early 2014. Chevy and GMC have done this in the past just like the 2007's early NBS and late NNBS.

Oops. It was 2007 and 2007.5 :?:

The 6.0, much like the 2014+ 5.3L, has been completely redesigned - aluminum block is the biggest change. It is NOT the same engine offered in the current gen trucks. If you get a 2015 youre buying a first-run engine. The Head-engineer of GM was quoted as saying that engine parts that have been carried over from previous gen "can fit in a zip-lock bag." IMO its safer( and easier on the wallet) to get a current gen.

The new HD's sure do look sharp though
