I was checking with a dealer internet manager on a new GMC and she inserted this little note in the email price quote:

Lastly, there are new private incentives that are being applied to select individuals. We would be happy to check to see if your on the list. Just need a last name, and city of residence.

We looked up your name to see if you were on the manifest for any special offers, and unfortunately you are not on the list

I am not on that list but I wonder who is? This was a very large dealer in Lower Michigan and when I asked another dealer sales manager about this, he was baffled and did not know anything of it.

My dealer told me the same thing when I bought my truck - I went to two Chevy dealers, the salesman at one claimed I was not on the list, the salesman at the other found my name on TWO lists...

I got $1,000 extra off for being a current Pontiac owner
Another extra $1,000 off for being a GM card holder on top of my GM card earnings.

You can guess who got my business, I walked out paying exactly $2k less than my "goal" price when I walked in. In this case, pinning two dealerships against eachother to find my name on a list I never saw worked out.


*** edit - I should mention I did not receive ANYTHING in the mail about either of these incentives, I was watching my mail very closely for 3 months!!! I asked the salesman, he explained this are "unpublished" incentives that they use just to push deals through such as mine when the buyer is very close to buying but needs a little bit better of a deal. It all sounds like smoke and mirrors to me still, but oh well!

No wonder so many people hate buying cars. There was a Philadelphia market incentive when I got my Silverado. Was there an Idaho incentive too? I don't know. Two people in different areas can roll out of dealerships in different regions with identical vehicles except for the VIN and have big differences in the price.

I got something here from GM Business card that says I qualify for some plan but according to the salesman they cannot tell me what it is unless I am there in the store when the contact the GM Business card as they cannot get that info, only me a time of deal.
