DIC message that tire pressure is low

Postby recon33alpha [OP] » Jan 03 2012, 2:38pm

Yesterday while waiting on a buddy in the parking lot, a message came on stating my left side RR tire is low, this message wouldn't go away, and looking at the pressures, all tires where within 1 pound of each other, and non of them being out of spec's. What do I do to get it back on track. FYI, the outside temps were in the 20's, ice and snow on the roads, don't know if that has anything to do with the message. Thanks in advance.

Tire monitor could be bad or need to be ""re learned". I know mine go off for being over pressure lots. Some one like gmctruckguy can probably shed some more light on the subject

Check the actual tire pressures COLD. If one tire is less than the rest it could trigger the message. I was keeping mine at 35 psi per my tire gauge and the TPS. Had the dealer recalibrate 2x and yet the message would come back when the temp dropped. So bumped my cold tire pressure to 38 psi (set after truck was parked overnight) and its been 2 months and the message has not come back on. Note-With my cold temp set at 38, the TPS shows 35 psi after the tires have been driven.

In climates where there is big swings in temps these systems get fooled if one tire is below the threshold. Also, do not trust the accuracy of most tire gauges, they often are not very good at giving repeatable accurate measurements.

PS - A friend is a assistant SM at my dealer and he says hardly a days goes by that they don't get several calls or walk-ins with TPS warnings. Blames the ambient temps, from -30 to the 90's and when ever the weather gets colder or hotter, the complaints rise.

on a new civic mine would do it all the time when it got cold. nothing was wrong with the pressures just messed up a bit. and after shutting it off and starting it back up it was fine. now my truck says it all the time and to relearn the pressures to do you think you have follow the instructions in the manual which is a pain in the butt..

its like hold the relearn tire pressure on ur DIC, then go to the driver front tire and hold until the horn chirps...passanger front tire hold until horn churps. back passanger same thing then to the rear drivers tire. after that go back threw the truck and balance all pressures. its a pain in the ass. but it what you have to do to relearn the pressures

Today, one tire was 29, and the other 3 were 30 psi,,,,this is the DIC reading, to me these seem low??? I'll start with bumping up the pressure to 35psi, and go from there. The reset procedures do seem like a pain in the butt!! Hope this isn't a reoccuring problem. When I bought the truck, I thought to myself, which computer option will act up first??? lol, alot of technology in trucks these days, eventually something is going to mess up.

I learned this from experience- if your tires are under pressure, you will get the check tp message on your dic, plus a little yellow icon will appear in your cluster. However, if your tires are OVER inflated, you will just get a check tp message, no icon. Just an fyi....

Its a mandated safety feature so it cannot be disabled easily. Thank the Ford Explorer blow out problems for the federal gov't enacting the Tread (Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) Act in 2000.
