Postby aksierra11 [OP] » Jun 26 2011, 8:45am

Got some plain steel 17" rims and street rubber and did a test and tune night at the local drag strip

Hey Andy, thanks for the pics and video!
What kind of time did you run and did you run again?
What are the details on your tune?
Also, anybody ever hit a moose on that track? lol

It's been years since I've been to the strip. Watching your video makes me want to go back so bad. I used to be there every Sunday as well as most Wednsday nights. Talk about an adrenaline rush. This was my old 'Bird. It would run consistant mid 11s, and back at the shop, we would sit around, crack a few beers and bench race into the wee hours. Good times!

Best run was 14.1, I just can't get the tires to hook. If you listen in the video they are spinning first and second and breaking loose in third. I am working on my throttle control but leaving at half throttle does shit for my 60'. I found lowering the tire pressure helped out a lot, going to try even lower next time.

The truck has a drop in K&N air filter, aftermarket exhaust which dumps behind the rear axle and a custom tune by a local guy up here. Truck has the 6.2L with max trailer package so 3.73 gears. I pulled the fuses that control the ABS before the race so there is absolutely no stabilitrack or traction control. My next mod is to replace just the pipping that goes from the air box to the intake. Also going to talk to my tuner and see if he can ease up the shift points maybe, maybe that will help with breaking loose in 2nd and 3rd gear. That or it's time to buy some drag radials. =)

And nope, as far as I know no one has hit a moose on the track.

It's addicting. I spent roughly 400 on the trims and tires so I wouldn't thrash my stock setup. I want to get long tube headers and high flow cats. I think that with doing a tune off a wide band sensor will really wake her up.

I did one 4WD launch the whole night (out of about 14-15 runs). I really wasn't gaining much doing a 4WD launch. It left a little harder but I lost a lot on the top end, plus it's just really hard on lots of the components. If I can find a softer tire or a way to get more weight to the back tires and launch harder I will be good to go.

I thought about something like this, while I hate to add weight having that weight right over the rear axle might do more good than harm. Might have to try something like that out.
