How do i find out if I have a LS, LT model?

Postby 2006z71 [OP] » Nov 02 2010, 7:27pm

Ok i so bought my z71 back in august this year and it has no badges anywhere on the truck saying if it is a ls or a lt.
I have cloth seats, steering wheel controls, can any one give me some input on this matter, thanks

Is it a crew cab, extended cab, or single cab? Does it have a leather rapped steering wheel? Bench seat? What options does it have? It doesn't have the LT/ LTZ on the right rear of the tailgate? Did you buy it new?

Here's a site that can be used to find what they built into your truck at the factory:

http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

All you need is your VIN, and they'll go through the whole build, Option Code by Option Code.

Another piece of information you want to capture is the sticker in the glovebox - it has all the codes used to build your truck.

I do question some of the info the website provided - some of the codes don't match up with the descriptions. One example was the color of my truck...
For instance:
66U EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY (66U)
PRIMARY COLOR EXTERIOR, ZENITH BLUE MICA (66U)

It is actually Sonoma Red Metallic. Not repainted!!!

Here's a good starting place - GM's 2006 PASSENGER CAR VIN SYSTEM card

http://www.weber.edu/wsuimages/automotive/GM%20VIN%20Card%202006.pdf

The 5th and 6th digits of the VIN indicate the Truck Model , as follows:

C/1 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 1500 (1/2 TON)
C/2 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 2500 (3/4 TON)
C/3 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 3500 (1 TON)
C/5 GMC 3 TON (MEX ONLY)
C/6 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 1500 (1/2 TON) LUXURY
C/7 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 2500 (3/4 TON) LUXURY
C/8 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x2, 3500 (1 TON) LUXURY
K/1 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 1500 (1/2 TON)
K/2 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 2500 (3/4 TON)
K/3 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 3500 (1 TON)
K/5 GMC 3 TON (MEX ONLY)
K/6 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 1500 (1/2 TON) LUXURY
K/7 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 2500 (3/4 TON) LUXURY
K/8 FULL SIZE TRUCK 4x4, 3500 (1 TON) LUXURY

Does anyone know if the LS or LT would translate to "Standard" or "Luxury"? Were there only those 2 variants in 2006?
I know the newer models are more explicit in the VIN model code translations.

This site has a great decoder. It will break down the components and show it like a window sticker.

Glad to assist. I know I had the same question when I first saw mine on the lot -- they used to have the designation on the back of the cab (SL, SLE, ST, STE, etc ), but mine had none. It was comforting to know the VIN confirms that info.
