How many miles on your truck and what was your biggest repai

Postby SHNOOL [OP] » Feb 10 2012, 3:57pm

A person queried the board about a certain foreign car manufacturer known for their "reliability" versus a similarly equipped Chevrolet, at same MPG, and MSRP. The implication was that the foreign car was perhaps more generally accepted as "reliable," than the GM truck line. This irks me, not because I think GM is a superior product, but because I think reliability is directly related to how the vehicles are used.

Ok, rather than creating a troll magnet. Here is what I'd like you to do.
Post 1 answer per line:
How many miles you have on your truck.
How old your truck is.
What your config is. Example: 2012, 1500 Long Bed Regular Cab, Gas 5.3 WT
What your biggest repair bill was (dollars not needed, only what was broken), and at roughly how many miles.
Why did you buy your truck: (hauling hay, towing a boat, commuter car, winter driving, looks, 4 Wheeling, whatever, just state the main reason please)

Lets see if we can relate, how hard the trucks are used, versus reliability to give a flavor for how reliable they REALLY are. I mean if you 4 wheel, and you modded the crap outta your truck, and you broke an axle, well then the truck likely isn't unreliable now is it? Or you are rated to tow #10000, and you towed #15000 and smoked the tranny, I guess that isn't a bad tranny right?

Mine is a 07 NBS 99,500 miles used as a daily driver and tow with it when needed, the battery lasted only 7 months and 8,000 miles at 78,000 had to replace idler pully for a/c compressor and now it's showing a code saying I need to change the #5 coil pack. I bought it new it's a crew cab LT model 2wd.

Postby ZR2toZ71 » Feb 10 2012, 5:04pm

Year: 2001
Mileage: Just shy of 69,000
Config: 5.3L ext cab, Z71, 4wd
Repairs: To my knowledge the original owner replaced the basic stuff; a few belts, brakes, hoses, alternator, etc. I need my front left brake fixed asap.. caliper hung up.
Why: We haul a lot of scrap metal, and our ATVs. I also work on a farm and sometimes have to throw stuff in it for that. I went with a full sized truck also as a future-family hauler.
