How much should I pay?

Postby cadebriggle [OP] » Feb 01 2012, 1:40am

I am looking to purchase a new Silverado Z71 4X4. Currently I have a 2010 Silverado Texas edition LT. I've been shopping around and the truck I want has an MSRP of around $39,000. How much off of MSRP should I be able to get? I've talked to my local dealer and he said I can get $2,000 off consumer cash, $1,000 GM loyalty, and $1,000 for trading in. That makes the price $35,000, but from other forums I have read most people get $10,000 or more off of MSRP. Any input will be helpful.

Basicly it sounds like the only thing that the dealership is allowing you is $1000 equity on your trade. The rest of the money is GM's money. I would try to take an additional $3000 off the $35,000. I would think $32,000 would be fair before tax tag and title app (assuming they have not added a bunch of crap onto the sticker price to begin with). I always disregard any additional stickers the dealership puts beside the factory sticker (with crap like sealant protector, pin stripes, undercoating, Etc.).

The $1,000 is some type of incentive.. I'm not even considering the equity I have in my truck right now, I only owe 14k on it and I've been offered 21k at a different dealership so I expect at least 7k in equity.

So basically they are not negotiating anything off but the incentives. Have you made any kind of an offer? My truck had an MSRP of around 52K I got it for 40K delivered minus the DMV fee's. I had to pay those after I recieved the truck being I purchased it out of state. Mine also was a 2010, model year left over.

I would start with at 29K. That is 15% off their price plus incentives. If the reject, then offer 29,870 out the door. I would not go any higher that 33K max. And non of this is factoring in the equity that you have in your trade. if that is 7K as you say, then minus that from those figures and go from there.

Hope you are getting a 6.2L

Yea, it sounds like they are trying to make you feel good about paying sticker price. Typical salesmen.

the 6.2L would be nice but a little unnecessary for me :). I'm in no real hurry to get one, so I've advertised my truck at a few places to try and sell it privately and maybe save a couple thousand. Thanks for the input everyone, I'll get the deal I'm looking for eventually.

what you need to do is go to another dealer and give them their quote and be like im not paying this price they wont come down and start negotiations at the different dealer at the already 35K price show them everything what they give you for a trade in and what they are selling the truck 2 you at...then get their quote based on credit...and take it back to the other dealership where you started and be like look you going to beat this price or im not doing buisness with you..and you will get the truck for the price you want ( or at least a better price)

thats what i did with my new honda i took my first quote to another dealer and was like i have a quote for 16,500 brand new out the door i said if you want my buisness beat there price they sold it to me at 15,900 i took it back to the other place and got it for 15,500 out the door brand new 0 miles New honda civic with alloy rims sun roof and all the accessories lol

I like to do my shopping online via email. I find it easier to get rude via email than face to face. Also you do not have to try and leaved when they corner you, All you have to do is not respond to their emails.
