How much weight have you put in a half-ton

Postby OlSmokie [OP] » Aug 02 2011, 12:37am

I just broke up my front walk today and I have to haul away the old concrete. I guess it is about 32,000lbs total.
I would like to do this in 2 trips if possible, and I put about 1/2 of it in my truck. It's sitting about level now and it is on the helper (?) leaf spring already but not by much.
Is 16,000 pounds pushing it with a half-ton?
BTW 7" thick solid concrete walk!!! Who the hell does that? 7 solid hours with a jack hammer just to break it up in the hot sun.
Back pills and bed early tonight.

LOL. Must be sun stroke. It would be riding a little low, wouldn't it.

Doesn't concrete in Canada (cold weather climate) need to be poured about 6-7" without rebar to prevent heave and cracking from the extreme cold? I think that's what Mike Holmes does. I had the guys pour a section of my sidewalk here in KC 6" thick because someone who shall remain nameless kept coming home "late" and accidentally driving on the walk. It cracked and broke. Guess what. After 10 years, not even a hairline fracture on it. :).
Can't you call up your local recylce concrete and asphalt company and for a few bucks have them haul that away? One front loader and a 3500 Dually with trailer and problem solved. MORE POWER!!!

I ended up thinking better of it and rented a U-Haul trailer. That way I could do it safely in one load. The concrete plant will take it and recycle it for free, but you have to take it there.
This photo had nothing to do with my decision...honestly

That looks like an Australian vehicle. They have modern versions of the El Camino. I think they are made by Holden. BTW. Some of those cars are bad ass! Think Pontiac GTO 02-06...
