I'll never buy another Silverado

Postby Nyron [OP] » Feb 13 2012, 12:27am

I guess I am kind of ranting here. I bought my Silverado in July of 2010 and it was brand new. It currently has 16k miles on it. I was sort of disappointed with some minor issues--radio was faulty, there was some adhesive applied incorrectly on the windshield, dash panel came loose, etc. As I said, these were minor issues and didn't really affect driving it. For the past month or two it has had some hesitation when starting cold. I took it to my local dealer about 2 weeks ago and you can guess--kept it 2 hours and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Fast forward to this past Friday, I was driving and truck started shaking. Got an error message saying Stabilitrack disabled (which is fine) but also says engine power is reduced. I had to drive home on the interstate and I kid you not--the damn truck wouldn't go faster then 35 miles per hour. So needless to say, I have been without a vehicle this weekend (the dealer's service dept is closed).

This is absolutely unacceptable. I have never had a vehicle with this type of issue after only 16k miles. That is the reason I bought a Silverado--I have to have a dependable vehicle. Well in theory that is. This weekend a truck I paid 33k for is setting in the parking lot. Wasted 2 hours at the dealer a few weeks ago and truck still barely starts when it is cold (I can't help but to think the issues are related). From what I have read, it may be a throttle body problem which is a known issue. I don't know--maybe having a Subaru spoiled me. I will never buy another Chevrolet again.

Thanks. I guess I can try another dealer but really that is only part of the problem. My grandfather had a Blazer and that thing was going strong after 150k miles. That was about 20 years ago though. I will contact Chevy through that link.

I have previously had 3 Ford Rangers and yes I can honestly say they had a much better build quality. I am very disappointed, I really expected to have my Chevrolet for 10 years or 150-200k miles with no major issues. I take great care of my vehicles which includes maintenance. It's just very frustrating.

So why did you take the truck back after they told you there wasn't anything wrong? If it was me I would of said "Yes there is and you are going to find and fix it before it becomes a major issue. I have done this exact thing and they took it back in and ended up being a bad MAF sensor, truck had less than 10k on it at the time. I quit buying brand new trucks after having to work out the little things and taking a huge hit in depreciation, now I will look for months till I find the right one and the right deal. Have had good luck the past 13 years doing this. And taxes don't hurt as much when getting tags put on.
