Is Mothers California Gold Carnuba Wax the best

Postby wabbitchaser [OP] » Apr 01 2012, 12:35pm

I have read alot of reviews on car wax/polish especially for a black vehicle. I have a 2009 Black GMC Sierra SLT, and I just purchased Mothers California Gold Carnuba wax. It will be next week before I can apply. From replies it is picked as one of the best, has anyone used this wax. According to reviews it does not damage your paint by frequently waxing (every 3 months). In the hot sun in Florida, a black vehicle requires frequent waxing to avoid dull finishes. Has anyone used this product before, and were they pleased with the results. I do have a da orbital buffer.

All Mother's products are very good and high quality. I've used California Gold on many black vehicles, that being said car wax is like engine oil- many people have opinions on which one is the best. Good luck.

Wax is wax not quite true, like synthetic oil is the best, and with carnuba wax it is the best. And price goes up with both comparisons.

ive never heard of paint being damaged from waxing too much. As for black paint all wax is the same, it provides protection and some shine but does not get rid of swirls. You need to polish those out with a machine.

Hate to say this but waxing other than with a DA polisher orbital buffer removes clear coat plain and simple. Hand polishing can also cause damage to the clear coat. Of coarse a DA polisher orbital buffer generally sells between $200.00 - $400.00. The advantages of using this type of machine is it applies a thinner coat of wax, polishes more evenly, and gets more oil into the finish when using a carnuba was. Plus it is much faster.

Ive used cali gold on my black truck, but I really like Mothers FX Synwax. It goes on and comes off much easier than cali gold, and the results are great!

The big thing with Black is that you need a wax that does not dry with the white residue... it stands out like a sore thumb. I also do not use a light colored towel when removing the wax. White leaves white lint. When you dry a vehicle.. lots of opinions out there. Chamois, synthetic wipes, Silicone squeegee, or towel. It is all up to you. I found that if you use a good quality all Carnauba wax without cleaners will not damage the finish. A pure Carnauba will go on easy and come off easy without residue.

Nothing looks prettier than a freshly waxed black truck!!

I prefer Meguiars, but was at a detail shop the other day and it was mentioned both Meguiars and Mothers are very comparable, high quality product lines.

Meguiars has two product lines, one for show-class, one for regular. Don't knock the regular line though, it's insanely awesome. The show-class is just that. While it may seem you want show-class, the product is harder to work with, costs much more, and is generally used only by those who detail professionally. I've been using the regular line for a while and have never had a problem or bad detail job.

And as mentioned, black is tricky to work with, as are other darker colors. However, neither of the Meguiars lines will leave any white residue on the car if applied properly; most people use too much wax. I was using the NXT wax, and it came off very easily with both a hand rag or a DA buffer. I'm going to be trying out the newer Ultimate products this weekend or the next.

Seems like I'm allways on the prowl at the local auto part stores. Last week I picked up some of ArmorAll's new wax.

Pretty amazing stuff. Goes on easy and buffs off leaving a better than expected shine. Kinda reminded me of another product called ICE, but this stuff is way better. I'm sold on this product. Sorry no pics, we were out camping last week and I havent cleaned the truck for a week.
