I've been looking at low mileage used Silverado and Sierra's. Currently have a 2005 Z71 ext cab 5.3 with 3.42 rear. I pull some but nothing huge. 17.5' deep v fishing boat and a pop up camper. I've not been completely thrilled with the 3.42 4 speed combo, but thinking it should be good with the 6 speed. I don't think I want the 3.08.

Any advice?

The 3.08 will give you good mileage, but you are right, the 3.42 will tow better. I think the 5.3, with a 6 speed tranny and 3.42 is perfect for towing what you are (similar to me, with a 19 foot boat).

If I were you I would try and get a new 11. With all the rebates out there and 0% financing you cannot go wrong. I got 7500 off of the sticker on mine. I was looking for low mileage used until I stumbled on new one i loved with the rebates.

I have an 11 with 3.42's and a 6 speed and i pull an 18.5 foot bass boat like there is nothing there the 3.42 and the 6 speed is a great combo

I'm with this guy When I purchased mine, I looked at a few used ones but they were too much when I compaired those to new.

I've considered that, but 11's are far and few between locally. One dealer has a selection of them but I refuse to deal with them after the they trashed my wife's Equinox when it was in for service. I might end up waiting for Chevy to up the offers on 12's. By the look of how many 12's are on lot's they might want to help dealers push them soon.

Well, Merry Christmas to me! I pulled the trigger on a 12 Silverado LT today. Won't bring it home until Monday because dealer closed at noon today and closed tomorrow for holiday. Not a problem with me. I'll use the weekend to decide which accessories I want to get now.

I think I got a decent deal. Got $3500 in rebates plus they discounted the price fairly well. Got $15k for my 2005 Z71 after they started at $13,500. I was happy with that. Also got $500 accessory cash.

Thinking I want the following accessories.
-Chevy molded mud flaps
-Nerf bars(can't decide which ones. I have 3" on my 05, but thinking something different)
-Truxedo
-Spray liner(maybe) -They did my 05 and it's still smooth and glossy.
