need help. truck wont take gas

Postby portbuster [OP] » Jul 31 2013, 2:41pm

I got the p0446 code coming up every now and then. But even before it came up it would take 30-60 minutes to fill my truck up. Either in 10 cent increments or putting my knife under the handle to set it to a penny a second. I know the code has something to do with the evap solenoid but does that have anything to do with putting gas in my tank? Also the cheapest solenoid I could find for the right part number was $60. I saw on another post(maybe another forum, can't remember) that they used a part # 911-021 dorman solenoid which I can get for $15. Can I get that and some regular hose and mount it somewhere else? Thanks for any help. Want to hurry up and get this fixed so I can go back the the important stuff like adding radio controls to my steering wheel, remote start, and replacing my horns :)

I've had this issue for a while now, and coudlnt figure it out. Mine is not as bad as yours but i found if i turn the gas hose from the pump sideways it helps. Good luck and hopefully some one else chimes in witha fix

did you drive through some mud or sand recently? I had an Impala when i worked in the country and I plugged the Evap container and i had all sorts of problems. Then my uncle who is a mechanic literally reached under my fender without looking and a pair of pliers and pulled out the evap, blew in it and put it back in and it worked like normal.

if you look at my last two pictures that I just posted in my albums you would not ask that question lol. But yes I did. But I filled up about 2 hours after I did and there was no problem. Oh and I did take it off and cleaned it last weekend but it didn't help.

Have you tried going to different gas stations? It may not be related but I've noticed the Sunoco gas stations along interstate 80 do the same thing to my truck when I try to fill up and so does one of the gas pumps at the local gas station.

a quick google search turned up this is common from over filling, aand the part is about $160 or so for silverados, but other GM vehicals that have the same part number you can get them for $24 or so......do some research, I think you can test them as well

Even though I say fill up I don't put more than $65 in it from empty. I don't do a lot of driving really. And I usually use Enmark although it will vary from the ones on hwy 21 in Springfield, rincon and 95/21. And parkers every now and then. I'm pretty sure its going to be the evap solonoid just want to be sure before I get it. And I'd like to get the cheaper one and some hose and put it all together and move at the same time. And move the vent itself higher. Thanks guys.

Sounds like the vent is stuck closed, yes you can use the old $20 vent solenoid... On nnbs and nbs trucks it works fine

Sorry I'm not familiar with those abbreviations. I'm taking a guess that NBS means new body style?

Yes, i cant see your vehicle info bc i am on the autoguide app at the moment. So i was telling you it works on both recent body styles... Its a single port vent, around $26 at OReillys

I would link you but, search here for the P0449 thread, its pretty recent and talks about this
