Should I wait for end of 2012 or 2013 to buy a new truck

Postby sparkplug [OP] » Jun 22 2012, 5:45pm

I been thinking lately and after talk to my gf, we decide to to buy a new truck. reason I never want to drive a new truck before because I think about gas miles or never have nothing to use it, but after I bought this 2000 truck I really like it, sit alot higher and see the road better and gas miles is not different. I can tow or hauling this now. anyway I heard usually end of the year they sell cheaper so they can get 2013 in. Should I wait few more month to pick up a silverado 4 door ext z71 LT or LTZ truck or wait for 2013 model ? any different price between 2012 or 2013 model ? like 2011 compare to 2012 model. This will be brand new truck.

If you don't need it now I say wait. I would wait till the 2013's are announced to see what they look like. Then if you like the 12's better you can probably get a good deal. If you like the 13's better you can be one of the first to have them.

I bought mine at the end of 2010 and got a real killer deal on it!! Since you still have time and they will probably annouce the 2013 before the year ends, I say wait.

Intersesting info on the 2013 model (rumors of course!):
suppose to be 500 lbs lighter than previous model.
All models, including the V6 model, will have the 6 speed tranny.

Downside, the sketches they been throwing out on the internet make the new Silverado look like a Dodge! YUK!!

Bought my new 2011, at the end of 2011 when the 12's were already on the dealers lots. Saved almost $12K off sticker. if that is an incentive to you, I would wait.

2013's are already enroute to dealers. My dealer has 5 but the all appear the crew cabs. 2013 is the same body style. 2nd 1/4 of 2013 it when the new body style 2014 models are supposed to start production.

According to what a friend told me who happens to be asst sales mgr at a GMC store they hav been told to load up on the old body styles 13's as the 2014 are going to be trickling in till the ramp up to full product towards the end of 2013 calendar year.

Nothing much has changed from 12 to 13, some colors dropped and others added but the trucks are identical. 13 is an unlucky number?

Here is a dealer in Texas, he has a few trucks on the lot

Results: 960 Chevrolet Trucks
Total Chevrolets; 2,307 in stock

Classic Chevrolet - Grapevine
1101 W Highway 114
Grapevine, TX 76051

Re: Should I wait for end of 2012 or 2013 to buy a new truck

Postby FuzzyB » Jun 23 2012, 1:24am

As far as deals go, the absolute best time of year to get the best deal is between Christmas and new years. Why? Trucks need to be moved so they aren't carried over to the next tax year...this cost dealers money.

End of month is a good time or watch for incentive months when factories give rebates. If you are patient you can buy a truck at a great price. Patient is the key word here. Also, shop and price on edmunds.com so you know what things are going for...be prepared and patient and you'll do just fine.
