Swimming Pool

Postby chevygirlkc [OP] » Jul 14 2011, 3:39am

I was wondering if I can put a tarp in the bed of the Silverado 1500 4x4 LTZ Extended Cab and add water and make a pool for in the driveway. Driveway is flat and I would not drive around. How much water could I put in it without any problem? Any thoughts on this project?
Thanks.

You can definitely do it, I think I would be more worried about exceeding the payload of the truck. Fluid weight adds up quick but it shouldn't be hard to find out the volume of the bed.

To fill it to the top, doing some rounding off, you're looking at 2700 pounds; almost a ton and a half. Here's how I got that number:
Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon.
There are 7.4 gallons per cubic feet.
I guesstimated your truck at about 44 cubic feet. (6 wide x 6 long x 16" high, 48' less 4' for the wheel wells)
So 44 x 7.4 x 8.3 = 2702

You've got a 1/2 ton, right? Even half full would probably break springs, plus you were probably thinking of people getting in?

Hope this helps.
