Daytime Run lights off- headlights on---switch sequence ?

Driving me nuts- I have a 2001 Sierra.
My wife used it to take her friend to pick up her car at the chev.dealer service dept.
While there she asked the service writer to reset the oil change prompt. ( the reset as spelled out in the owners manual is incorrect, and has never worked)

He did some sequence involving the light switch, ign. and throttle.

Now, the daytime run lights do not come on, the headlights come on as soon as the park brake is released and truck is in gear. day or night.

Did he do voodoo on my truck ? and put the lights in some mode ?

My next guess would be bad light sensor on dash, or wiring.

Bulbs work when I remove them to test.

at 150,000 miles this has been a great truck, fuel gauge doesn't work if more than 1/2 tank of gas ( since 2004), clip for the tailgate linkage snapped in 2005, tailgate plastic trim dropped off in the driveway a few months ago.
finish on plastic hubcaps came off pretty quick.
But very happy with this truck, fantastic brake system- still have the factory pads.
Can count on 20 MPG at 70 MPH all day

Thanks, the dealer mentioned above is a few hundred miles away- yes, i called, they said "bring it in" big surprise.

The sensor is visibly in place, we've always been good about tossing clipboards etc. on the dash, so no physical impacts.

Before i open up the dash- is there a switch sequence possibly involving the dome light or light switch ?

thanks, Mike

Hey Mike,
Not sure if this will help or not, but my brother has a 2001 Sierra he bought new and I remember him saying something about dome light switch and the DRL's. I got this out of the owners manual, not sure if this will fix your issue but it was worth a shot.
The DRL system will come on when the following conditions are met:
the ignition is on,
the headlamp switch is in automatic headlamp mode,
the automatic transmission is not in PARK (P),
the light sensor determines it is daytime and
the parking brake is released.

When the DRL are on, only your DRL lamps will be on.
The taillamps, sidemarker and other lamps won't be on.
The instrument panel won't be lit up either.
When it begins to get dark, the automatic headlamp system will switch from DRL to the headlamps or the
last chosen headlamp setting that was used. When you turn the headlamp switch off, the headlamps
will go off, and your DRL lamps will illuminate, provided it is not dark outside.
To idle an automatic transmission equipped vehicle with the DRL off,
set the parking brake. Shifting the transmission into PARK (P) will also allow you to idle the vehicle with the DRL off. The DRL will stay off until you release the parking brake or shift the transmission out of PARK (P).

To idle a manual transmission equipped vehicle with the
DRL off, set the parking brake. The DRL will stay off
until you release the parking brake.

The following procedure applies only to vehicles first
sold in the United States.

When necessary, you may turn off the Automatic Headlamp System and the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) feature by following these steps:

1. Turn the ignition to RUN.

2. Press the DOME OVERRIDE button four times
within six seconds. After the fourth press of the
button, a chime will sound informing you the system
is off. The system will revert back to the automatic
mode when the ignition is turned off and on again.

3. To return to the automatic mode, push the DOME
OVERRIDE button four times within six seconds
(the chime will sound), or turn the ignition off
and on again.
