I'm about to order a 2014 SLT All Terrain Plus Crew Cab, Short box... Dealer mentioned they are nearing their cut off for orders for 2014 but had no info on the 2015 changes or updates... any one happen to know? 8 speed transmission?

Well it doesn't sound like your in a hurry so my vote goes to 2015.

Thanks guys - I'm looking for if anyone knows if and what changes 2015 models will offer. Rebates and pricing should get better on 2014s, so waiting for a 2015 will cost more... is the wait worth whatever tweaks they will make? Guessing if there was an 8 speed in the mix we would have heard about it?!

$7500 in rebates right now on the 2014's that is why I just traded in, plus the fact I got a special offer for an additional $1000 off and to top it off, I had $536 in gm points from my Gm credit card I used
Just over $9000 off the sticker price and my dealer give me $10,000 more then I owed on my truck trade.

I wouldn't be to worried about the first year of the new body, there are very few issues with them. Gm did a pretty thorough job this time

I remember reading( probably in motor trend) that we should expect the 6 speed trans to stick around for another
couple of years, as far as other changes go, I couldn't say.
They usually don't change much in the second year of a new design, though.

They really could use a more refined transmission than the current six speed.....

"Having launched the 2014 Chevy Silverado, General Motors/Chevrolet are rumored to update the all-new truck for the 2015 model year.
The updates could consist of:
8-speed transmission to replace the 6-speed unit for improved power delivery and fuel economy
Diesel engine for 1500-level trucks for improved capability

To note, General Motors was rumored to have developed a new 4.5 liter V8 diesel engine in the early to mid 2000s, but the powerplant was never produced.

Although entirely unconfirmed, it is possible that GM could resurrect the engine for the Silverado 1500 to battle newfound competition from Ram, which will offer a diesel engine in its line of Ram 1500 pickup trucks."

Rumours. However, I'd wait for a 2015.

Thiers an interview with a GM exec where he states that GM did in fact produce a hand full of 4.5 Dmax's for testing but the economy tanked a year or two after so they literally put them back on the shelves. But I could see GM releasing a the 4.5 the same model year that Ford releases their version.

The guessing of model changes happens always....Im sure to say what is true is that dealers have "quarterly" orders they have and are allowed to make certain changes based off of what the current production and what time of the year it is. Your looking at quarter 4 right now almost since it is March and the 2015's are due out in June/July/August typically...When I was going to order my truck I had this same thing I was not going be guantreed a order nor ship date therefore I found what I wanted via my dealer and doing a dealer trade! My advice is wait or look for what you want in 2014 since the rebates are great!

I'm just wondering how long it'll be before GM ditches the V8 and puts wussy turbo 6s in all the trucks. That will be a sad day, indeed.....

i'd like to see them slap a turbo on the current 5.3. it gets good enough gas mileage and would give the extra power. doubt they'll ever do it though

Don't ever say that; don't even think it.

GM wont turbo 5.3... it would eat the sports cars if you could get it to hook up. second the new canyon/Colorado has a diesel version for the 2015 model. not sure when thats coming out, in Brazil the canyon and Colorado have been diesels already for the past year or so. I would like to see a diesel 1500 tho but it i think it would be too pricey think about it... diesel engine $5000? option on a $45000 truck= $50000 you can buy a decently equipped 2500 for that. just my .02.

Not sure what the point in putting a Diesel in a 1500 is. The motors now can already tow a trailer that puts you over the payload of the truck. Soo I don't get it. I guess you get to pay 5K extra for a truck that can tow a 6500lb trailer easier? Cost more in fuel and more to repair.

#21 Ā·
^^^^ It's not all about towing. The fuel milage you can get with a diesel is huge. You can have a small diesel motor that puts out gobs of torque and gets 30mpg if they do it right. Just look at the vw/audi diesels.

The Ram ecodiesel has terrible payload- something on the order of 1200 and lower!- if you get it with any real options. It does provide significantly higher highway fuel economy, but the EPA gives it the exact same yearly fuel cost as a similarly equipped GM 4.3 ecotec3 based on combined economy and the cost of diesel!

Does it really make sense that people are waiting on lists and paying MSRP for a truck that can't be loaded like its competition, will tow slightly more, and save only a few dollars in fuel costs over a competitive V8 and nothing over a competitive V6?

Diesels are a bit of a religion unto themselves. After seeing my bosses 7.3 powerstroke disintegrate monthly, it seems that there is a tremendous amount of costs associated with getting them to that magical 250K plus mileage.

FishTaco-You are correct the RAM trucks in half-ton payloads have always had low numbers. The problem with that is (if all the posts on this forum in the towing section are any indication) is that buyers don't pay attention to this number until they go out and buy a trailer-or after the fact, buying a trailer that is unsafe to tow.

Then they come on here after they buy their truck trying to justify towing something that is unsafe.

Asking questions like-"Can I use bigger tires? Bigger shocks? Air bags? The 2500 Springs? Etc.!

So true. The solution to every one of their questions is simple: Buy a 2500 Diesel and quit playing around.

In the case of the GM 1500 Diesel, it's all about competing and staying relevant. However, I wouldn't be surprised if TONS of power could be relatively easily drawn out of GM's 1500 diesel offering, making it popular among those who want to burn rubber but not drive a 7500lb truck around

OP, You should wait until the 15's come out and then make your decision. If you do in fact want a 15, wait and find one w/ 20,000mi or less on it in 2016 and buy it, and smile knowing that you saved yourself $15,000. New vehicles are a tough pill to swallow!!
