I have a 2012 GMC Sierra SLE. It didn't come with the backup camera, but I would like to add it. From my understanding the trucks with the locking tailgate are already wired for the backup camera. My truck has the locking tailgate. Has anyone tried to install an OEM backup camera to their truck before? I did search but didn't find anyone doing an OEM camera.
I have the factory one and there is a wire that runs from the bed into the tailgate there is a whole right below the bed where it comes through so you might look if you have that hole and there might be a chance its wired for it

Checked out some other sources for these camera's - based on the kits provided, the truck is not wired for it all the way back to the tailgate, but there are kits that utilize the factory location and work through either a replacement mirror (stock style) or your nav system (if equipped). The instructions include details about where to drill the whole in the tailgate, so it does not seem that they were pre-wired, at least up through 2011.
When I was looking at my truck before I bought it GMC's website said the remote locking tailgate could not be paired with the back up camera so it's probably not wired for it or if it uses the same wiring you will have to choose one over the other.

Do you have the links to these other sources? I read some website that the trucks were wired to the tailgate if the tailgate had the locking tailgate already. Im not doubting you, I'm just curious if your sources included this tidbit of info. Ive found the bezel with camera and then the rearview mirror replacement foe about 500...
I installed an aftermarket setup in my nbs 07. I swapped my autodim / Onstar mirror with a monchromatic display purchased on eBay. I purchased the camera from another seller - i basically bought a new tailgate bezel that had a camera in it. I did have to drill 2 holes in the tailgate, run a wire under the frame back to the cab and up to the headliner. It was pretty simple but I had an issue with interpreting the wiring. The vendors were both super helpful. I'm no install guru and I did it in about 8 hrs due to a few problems. I believe it cost me around $350. I recall I needed a higher end camera in order to see my trailer hitch. Something to do with the angle. I will try to post a pic. I really like it and it looks like factory.
the only thing that I don't care to much about your install KPM is the wire coming down to the dash. It looks tacky. Other then that it looks good. How has it handled for you? Any issues or anything you would have done differently?
That cord you see dangling is my invisicord for my radar. It was hanging for some reason in this pic. NO wires are visible from my bu camera install. If you need more pics I can take some.
Like the camera.. have one... works great and nightvision too... AND that cord / wire looks like it is an Invisicord for a radar detector, I use the same looking cable for my V1, pulls power and ground from the mirror, works great... When I dont use it it hides behind the mirror well.

I think links to other forums are OK when it answers the question.
