Agreed...there is no "mystery addition" to the fluid level. I would drain and refill to the correct level, then report back.

I seem to have the same problem with my 02 silverado 208K miles, tranny starting to slip and fluid over level
also, fluid is reddish but not real bright.
When it rains it pours, when I brake when wheels turned left or right truck is hard to stop, pedal goes almost to the floor and the abs kicks in. One guy I talked to said he had similar problem and it was a cracked cylinder in the dual cylinder caliper. sound right? any ideas on the tranny. I have not looked at the calipers yet due I have 3 kids 5 and under and momma works nights.

Take it into a shop and have someone qualified look at it. The only way fluid will get in is if cooler in rad tank has a hole (coolant into oil and oil into your coolant) transfercase front seal leaking (but normally would overfill transfercase instead of going into transmission)

Hello I purchased a 2012 Chevy Silverado 4.8 six speed auto 4x4,brand new, at 1000 miles, i got a burning smell from the truck, took it in they said it was from the exhaust stickers, at 3,000 miles the wire harness burnt up for the transmission, and in turn damaged the transmission, and it was all replaced with brand new harness and tranny, at 8,000 miles I get a clunking noise while backing out my drive way, turning corners, slowing down and speeding up for stop signs, stop lights or slow moving vehicles. I took it in to chevy today and they said its a learning transmission, and has to have time to learn my driving habits, now I was born, but not yesterday. I am waiting on the owner to call me from the dealership. anyone having this issue also.

Hello dreed706,

I apologize that you have experienced issues with your brand new Silverado, and now are experiencing an issue with a clunking in your vehicle. I am sorry to hear that you aren't satisfied with what the dealership's answer to what you are experiencing. Could you message me your name, contact info, VIN, mileage, and dealership you have been in contact with so I can reach out to them about this? Thanks for taking the time to read this. My transmission started slipping with no early warning signs. I checked fluid level and found it to be clean red and no burnt odorous. However it was a little overfull and had some small bubbles in it. Drained and dropped the pan and found the filter had fallen to the bottom and was not allowing the tranny to suck up the fluid properly. Put in a new filter seal and filter and cursed GM for not having designed this filter with some way to anchor other than just friction! Put her back together and it works as good as new. I have done regular maintainence on this truck since new, now have 135,000. Only problem with tranny up to this was a 2/3shift solonoid @ around 50,000.
