Hi Guys
Im wondering how long my little 5.3 L engine will last, 103000 miles now on my 2002 LS, Hypertech and new pipe and muffler, pulls the RV much better, I do all the maintenance reqiured and drive it easy.
Im considering a Duramax around 2005 model year, looks like they will go much longer than a gas engine.
Anyway how are your 5.3 L engines doing and how many miles do you have on them now?
Thanks Ron
My parents have a 2006 Yukon with the 5.3, 180k miles, and it honestly runs like new. They have replaced plugs, air filters, and oil.... that's it. That is the whole reason I got my truck with the 5.3, I drive over 25k miles a year and needed a truck that would reach 200k miles without skipping a beat!
I know these aren't 5.3L engines, but you get the idea that GM knows what they're doing:
My last truck had the 5.7, with about 300K miles
A friend of mine has the 5.7, with about 250K miles
I've got the 6.0, and it has 125K miles... runs like new.
The engine in my Trailblazer is untouched since it left the factory. Maintenance is done as per the owner's manual. I use regular petroleum oil in it, buy it when it is on sale for $12.99 for a 5L jug, and change it every 6000 miles. It just keeps running fine, just like when it was new. Gas mileage is the same as when it was new as well. Don't ask me how!
The 5.3 is a great engine. She will run for miles and miles if you take care of her. I have had 3 trucks with the 5.3 prior to my current one. A 1999 z71 I got brand new put 98,xxx miles on it in 2 years and it was still running like new when I traded. A 2004 purchased used in 2005 had 125,xxx when I got rid of it. Another 1999 z71 I got in June 2008. It had 240,xxx miles when I traded it for my current truck. I bought my current 2008 used on 4/26/11 with 68,xxx miles and it rolled 94,400 today. She is running just as strong as my friends brand new 2012 5.3
I've only had a 5.7 and now a 4.8, but any how, isn't the trailblazer 4.2 an Isuzu engine, I could be wrong but isn't the trailblazer a rebadged ascender. My point being a whole different animal.
The 4.2 is an inline 6 made by GM in the US *(was made - no longer in production). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Atlas_engine It was made in the US (4 & 5 cyl variants still are). The Isuzu was a re-badged Chev/GMC/whatever variant of the SUV, as opposed to the Chev et al being re-badged Isuzus. The 4.2 is an American made engine, not an Isuzu.
Gm does make some great engines for its trucks/suv, I just did a complete tune up on some body's 4.2, and I found it weird that it hand an inline 4.2/v6, just assumed it was one them Isuzu things. Now to get back on topic!
When I got rid of my 1998 Sierra, it had 355,000 miles on it. My uncle actually bought it and uses it for farm work with the original transmission and engine still running fine. Not sure of the miles now but I woul imagine it's 500,000 or better.
My dad's 1998 Sierra had 275,000 when he sold it. Also over 300,000 on 1991 S10 blazer and it's still running.
This is good to hear....even with my driving demands I'm looking at another 10 years easy!
