Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out why my 2000 Silverdo will not start. A couple of weeks ago I stopped for gas on my lunch break and when I went to start it back up, it would not start. It wouldn't turn over or "click" even one time. I was parked on an incline so I let it roll back just to get it out of the way. I sat there for about 15 minutes. Tried one more time and it started. I went back to work, finished the day and when I left for home it started fine. I don't drive it a lot, so it sat in the drive way for a few days and when I went to start it again it would not start, and has not started since.

I have power. The headlights work, the windshield wiper, the radio, all the gauges, the "door ajar" bell, everything. It has a new battery and I have checked all the proper fuses (I think). The only thing I hear at all when I turn the key is what I believe is the fuel pump "humming". When the key is in the on position, the battery shows about 12 volts.

I'm lost

I could be way off but I would check your starter, this sounds similar to when my starter went out on one of my old trucks. (im not a mechanic, so if im wrong, sorry)

yea i would take the starter off and take it to your local part store and see if they can test it... they should be able to

Well, I banged the starter a couple of times with a small hammer and the truck started. Would that indicate a starter or solenoid problem (or both)?

Starter armature starts to spin before solenoid kicks out starter drive. Replaced as a unit, dont try and rebuild it.
