the intake is on the back top of the motor on the 4.3 Silversurfer.

I just installed a K & N FIPK 77 series on my 4.3 yesterday and I felt a difference. With the original Air intake the truck would respond ok. But now I can press the gas and the truck howls and gives my lil 4.3 v6 some noticeable power and response. Im hoping on noticing some improvements on my gas milieage by the next full tank. Now, about the cost. I was looking on the web for about a month for the best price on this K&N CAI FIPK 77 series. And I found it for $184 on Amazon. Everywhere else was about $280 and up, I went to my local Autozone, Pepboys, O'reiley's, and Napa and they where all in the $300's. So I think I got a pretty good deal. I think you should get it, but for sure look for it online for a cheaper price.
