HOT ENGINE A/C OFF message on DIC 2008 4.3L

Postby jackcopp [OP] » Oct 07 2011, 3:20am

Hey guys, I've got a recurring problem with a 2008 silverado 1500 2wd LT with the 4.3 V6. At about 50,000 miles the HOT ENGINE A/C OFF message came up on the DIC. Along with that, the temp gauge dropped to zero and the cooling fans kicked on high. No signs of overheating though and coolant level is good. Reset computer by lifting power distribution box assembly up about 1" off its mooring for 10 seconds or so and all was well untill the next episode. This condition seems to occur when the ambient temprature is around 50 degrees., about 20 mins. after cold start. Also noticed "AND THIS MAY SOUND CRAZEY" that it happens about 10 seconds after going under strong magnetic fields, power transmission lines ect. The only modification to the truck is an air/oil trans cooler I installed this past summer because I pull a small trailer and the trans temp is now running at 165 to 175. Would like to get to the bottom of this. Thought about a new coolent temp sensor and a thermostat but ruled the out because everything is normal once reset of ECC is done. If you have any insights I would apperciate hearing them

sounds like it could be a bad sensor. what do you mean "lifting the pdb assembly up" ?

This is a common problem with the 4.3 gm. As far as I have researched, there is no fix for this other than to reset the computer. I am having this issue as well(2008 sierra 32k miles) Changing the sensor doesnt fix it, reprogamming the computer dosent fix it.
