You could, look for a side wrecked or rear end crash vehicle. Just make sure you thoroughly go over all of the engine and trans.

Hi BBR,

To your first question. There should be no problem with engine bay area, or clearances. Some things to think about...

Make sure you take everything off your donor vehicle, or better yet. Buy the donor, drag it home, and commence pulling stuff off of it. Exhaust manifolds, pulleys, any and all accessories, sensors, etc.. The radiator may also be of a different size, so up grading there might be necessary. I'll assume you have an automatic trans. This should also be a bolt up. Except for the 6.0L engine, all of the trucks used the 4L60E. The 6.0L used an upgraded version, or the 4L65E.. The computer will need some changes for sure!!

So where does that leave you? The swap can be done, for sure. Get as much info as you can about the differences, and be patient. I think it will be more than I weekend project.

You'll be going from 200Hp and 260ft/lbs torque in the V6 to 285HP and 325ft/lbs torque in a 5.3L V8... That will be fun!!! :D

Are you happy with your truck? If you like your truck, leave it alone and drive it. If your not happy with your truck, then consider altering, updating, or trading it off. Going through life you will realize that no matter what you have people will give you a rash of sh!t. If its not your truck is the color of your mudflaps or your favorite hunting rifle etc.etc... Make it the way YOU want and if they want you to change it tell them to pony up the money and they can have it anyway they want.

Now. That being said, changing out all the wiring harnesses and getting the computer to start up right and work with all the other components is a challenging job. It not out of the realm of possibility, but you will need to figure in all the costs. You may as well throw a ring, bearing and seal kit in while its out, because its so much easier to do while its not installed. All the new filters and fluids, may need new motor mounts if the one get is wrecked, just a lot of little things that will add up real quick. After you are all done, you still have the same truck, but faster. How fast is your truck now? Do you really need those "Exhibition of speed and those reckless driving tickets"? 'cause you know its going to happen. If I did all that work, your damn right I would be "Exhibiting reckless speeding driving behavior really fast gawd where the hell do i get bail money cuz I spent it all on my truck", fun things.

The 6.0 uses the 4L80E, not the 4L65E.
