V6 to V8 conversion

V6 to V8 conversion

Postby sarahsierra05 [OP] » Feb 12 2013, 8:17pm

Right now I have a 4.3L V6 with the 5-speed manual transmission. I'm building a 5.7L V8 to replace the V6 but my concern is the transmission; will the V8 bolt up to the transmission and if so do I need to upgrade the stock transmission or should I get a transmission to replace it?

Old school would be the way to go, but I did see an interesting aftermarket part on Trucks! some time back - apparently they make a wiring harness that can interface a modern computer with an EFI unit that bolts in place of the stock carb. Didn't give a lot of details on the show, but they were using it to upgrade an 80's K1500 with a modern block pulled from an 06 wrecker. How much work you up for OP?

Thanks for the help, my concerns are lessened now haha. As for the computer the 5.7 is a modern engine for my truck years...1999-2006. So there wont be any problem there, just a reprogramming for adding two cylinders to the firing order etc. and I'm good to go! (my uncle does vehicle computers so I'm not worried)

You should post a "how to" with a list of needed parts for this conversion.
