08 Silverado Throttle Position Sensor

Throttle Position Sensor Code

08 Silverado Throttle Position Sensor

Postby marshallick [OP] » Dec 11 2013, 5:51pm

I am new to this site, I just took my 08 Silverado into the dealership and had them look at my 4x4 service light. They ran a diagnostic on it and came back with it needing a new switch inside. Also they found out that it needs a new throttle position sensor (which isn't cheap). They also found out that it is throwing the P1133 code (insufficient oxygen in bank 1) which I changed 2 weeks ago and cleared the code after I replaced it. I also read somewhere on this forum about the throttle position sensor having problems that maybe GM would help out with the parts and or labor. Not sure if this is correct or not. My truck is at the dealership right now getting a new throttle position sensor put on which is actually a whole new throttle body. $600 bucks at the end of the day. Let me know if there is any info on this stuff.

I have never heard of TPS problems on our body style. I thought that the old style had more problems. I clean my TB once a year to keep it from building up too much carbon.

Do you know what part you need for your 4x4 and what it cost? I had a wierd problem a few weeks ago and i replaced the shift motor and haven't had problems since. Was wondering if others were having issues with the 4x4 on our body style.

The dealer told me that the TPS was failing. And the only way to change it is to get a whole new TB because the sensor is molded in. As for the 4x4 problem they told me it was the dial switch inside the cab. They told me the part was around 40 bucks.

There is a special warranty on the Tps on some NBS trucks. The dealership will have to run your vin to see if you qualify. I believe it's 10 years or 120k miles.

Well the truck shows more the 120k but it had a motor replaced that has less then that, but they probably wouldn't take that in effect.

Changed the throttle body out with a new one and had the dealer reprogram everything (recommended) and now seems to have more power and also better throttle response. The O2 sensor code hasn't came back on either.

I am unsure why you would have to replace the whole Throttle Body for just the sensor going bad. I am having the same problem in my truck at this moment and it seems that you can order the TPS from some places online like rockauto for about 40 dollars. This isnt doing you any good now as you have already had it fixed. I was just doing some searching to see if others had the same problem as I am having and ran across your post. Hope that everything is still working well for you.
