Postby miamidolfan3524 [OP] » Jun 08 2012, 7:44pm

ive been thinking about replacing my spark plugs and wires. not sure if they need to be replaced but also dont know when or how often to replace them. what are the benefits of replacing the spark plugs and wires and how often should they be replaced?

100k miles i believe the book will say... Make sure to not get sold any "performance" plugs. Just go back with oem!

I change mine every 50K...but last set i didnt change until 100K benefit is a cleaner burning fuel if they are bad and give you more power if they are corroded...also can fix a miss and other sutff but if you dont know when they were changed last id change them cant hurt anything...

I agree. AC Delco, Bosch, NGKs are always a good plug. And the wires get the bosch wires and make sure to get the boot grease for the wires, makes them easier to put on and take off. I believe its Dielectric grease!

I put them in my truck because the stock ones were still in when I got the truck 168k miles on them. With NGK Iridiums and new Bosch wires im seeing 4more MPG then where I was with the old plugs, I average around 17.8 and 18.5 MPG highway with my 6.0L Just my experience with them

How do you know delcos wouldnt have given an increase also? 4mpg is an insane increase from plugs and wires, hell any increase is crazy unless the plugs that were in it were trashed(168k ide called trashed, lol)

Yeah I would call them trashed as well, however they gapped right when checked and they were still within the "usable" range. They were clean enough and didnt really see anything wrong with them, no fouling, no white areas the electrode was in great shape. But they were definitely tired. The wires helped too they were the original wires. But like I said after changing my plugs I saw immediate power and fuel mileage results and the truck had a strange idle shimmy, new plugs stopped that. Now just need to decipher the "tap" im hearing at idle and until about 35-40 minutes of running. When the motor is really warm it seems to go away. Not quite sure though!
